The goal of Terimbere (progress) project is sustainable empowerment of the Musanze district rural community, through improvement of farmers' farming systems, income, water quality and supply, food security and community engagement. Current activity is focused on R&D and practical field application of major issues in adaptation of beans growing practices to local conditions, such as growing biofortified iron rich varieties in local soils and climate, strings’ trellising, IPM, water harvesting and irrigation, post harvest practices etc.
The Terimbere regional agronomic ICT system is based on a smartphone application for field reports and a web server data management and presentation. The system was designed for use by all stakeholders, allowing continuous monitoring and advice provision, and also future use for marketing of local produce by meeting traceability and GAP adherence reporting and auditing requirements.
